Smart Watch

Honestly, it’s more painful than pleasant to have one. I have a one wish for my smartwatch: There should be a one tap snooze for all sorts of notifications: social media has the worst timings for conversations. And the time usually coincides with your work that needs all your concentration. Apart from that, it is quite nice. There is a huge cry around why Apple watch battery sucks. Some of the most priced watches from my grandpa’s age required to be ‘key-ed’ every 24 hours for it to show the right time....

The Apple Watch

Apple announced it watch last year. And it decided to ship it from next month, this year. Of course, as a fan boy, it is a fab gadget to own. As an electronics engineer, it is a piece of marvelous engineering and worthy of owning. What follows is not a review, not a rant and definitely not a promotion. This is just an observation. Apple watch is a first in many things for Apple....

Spam

I wonder how stupid the spam crawler bots are. I get really silly and extremely obvious comments that scream of being just a script. I guess they need some good machine learning algorithms to check which blogs to spam. And then what to spam. At the very least, pay to get akismet database to see how they classify spam. Then see how to beat that. Pointlessly writing on blogs that have no visitors can only waste the spammers internet bandwidth....

My problem with haircare and toothpaste ads

is that they are quite silly. Have you noticed that they almost always have transparent touch screen displays? And that too fairly large ones? Well, that is my problem. I would like to believe that these ought to be expensive. Consumer television sets with 34″ and above that aren’t transparent cost quite a bit to buy. For instance, my TV cost me about $200 and is only about 32″. Ok, it is a smart model but I am sure the majority of the cost is the display technology....

And one more down…

Am slowly and steadily getting used to this. I have an idea, I and Noni discuss it a bit and figure out even we might not use it. I still have a hunch feeling that it is a worthy idea, but don’t pursue it anyway. A few days/weeks/months later I read an article about a new company or a product line formed with exactly the same idea. Today morning was no different....

PHP

I began my career in software writing PHP code. I used to like it so much that I tried to use php for even non-web scripting. I actually improved much of my c skill set by writing a PHP module! Then came along python. I like python so much that I haven’t written any PHP code since. And now, after all these years, I have to write some PHP code again....

‘Tax’ing

I had to file my taxes in India for the 1 month that I worked last FY. And my auditor wants a Form16 from the company. Dude, I quit the company about 1.5yrs back! Anyway, I am trying to reach out to them to see if I can get this sorted out quickly. I don’t know if there are other better tax services in India. I have heard of a few companies that claim to make it simple and straight forward....

This week on tech #2

The last time I went running in Jurong, I was given an RFID tag and later on my timing was published on a website. I had some theories on how they could have done this until I landed this site recently. So if you plan to host a running, then you might want to read this link! And then I came across another link to build a IoT oscilloscope for $25....

This week on tech #1

This one is long due – More than a week. A small note and the links I stumbled upon and was delighted to know. I’ll update every week, hopefully. Ever wanted to code during a presentation and get it right in front of all the audience? Here’s what you may need! Because sometimes you need to do it live This was fun knowing and hope to use it some day when I host a code hackathon or code demo 🙂...

Spicing it up a little …

Starting this weekend, I plan to write one post every week. Oh, the one post a day plan is still on – but as you can see it is not quite there yet. But this weekly post is a slightly different idea – one that hopefully will help me connect back to my original intentions. You might be aware of my arduino daily. It is an automatically generated page from paper....
