Air Con remote

Our house has a weird problem. There are 4 air con units in the three room house and some aircons are so close to each other that if you need to turn one ON without turning the others ON, you will need to defy the laws of physics, and sometimes even the laws of quantum mechanics and/or law of conservation of energy. Usually we end up switching one air con ON and then take a trip around the house to see what else got turned ON and then turn them OFF using our own algorithms....

Food Delivery Service

One of the things that is uniquely Singaporean is their hawker centers. Cheap, good quality food. Of course, being a vegetarian, my options in a hawker center are quite limited. And you can find one in every other block – basically you are never too far away from good food. Perhaps why services like Food Panda are not a major hit. Besides the hawker stalls don’t cost you any more than $3-$4 for a good filling lunch....

Excercise Timer

I have recently got on an exercise regimen to fight my back pain problems. It is sort of like Yoga but in a controlled manner. I don’t know if its fun, but it definitely helps to keep pain away. Typically, I’ll need to do 4-6 exercises twice a day. Each exercise is repeated three times and lasts 30 sec each time. Pretty simple, right? You need to keep aside about 30 minutes twice a day to take care of this....

Travel Planners

There are a lot of websites to plan your vacations and trips. I don’t want to list them all here. But the most common theme is along these lines: you have a budget and I have a package. you have a destination and I’ll tell you the budget. Well, I really wish there was a third category. I have a budget and number of days. I’ll tell you the sort of hotels I am looking at as well....

What keeps me awake

I tried to think about it a lot. Honestly, nothing. Yes, I do worry about terrorism, about women’s safety in India, about general social inequality at times. But I find myself more worried about my career, the stupid choices I have been making etc. Other than this, the only problems that I think about are : those that I believe can help me startup and those that I feel are really bad designs....

On Ideas and Starting up

Ever since I joined college, I have wanted to be on my own. I never wanted to work for a boss. But given my family conditions back then, it wasn’t quite possible. So I ended up taking a job. Most of the decisions I took, excepting my marriage, were meant to serve this purpose. It is quite pathetic when I think that I still haven’t been able to get there....

Spam

I wonder how stupid the spam crawler bots are. I get really silly and extremely obvious comments that scream of being just a script. I guess they need some good machine learning algorithms to check which blogs to spam. And then what to spam. At the very least, pay to get akismet database to see how they classify spam. Then see how to beat that. Pointlessly writing on blogs that have no visitors can only waste the spammers internet bandwidth....

And one more down…

Am slowly and steadily getting used to this. I have an idea, I and Noni discuss it a bit and figure out even we might not use it. I still have a hunch feeling that it is a worthy idea, but don’t pursue it anyway. A few days/weeks/months later I read an article about a new company or a product line formed with exactly the same idea. Today morning was no different....

Spicing it up a little …

Starting this weekend, I plan to write one post every week. Oh, the one post a day plan is still on – but as you can see it is not quite there yet. But this weekly post is a slightly different idea – one that hopefully will help me connect back to my original intentions. You might be aware of my arduino daily. It is an automatically generated page from paper....

Ideas

A good friend shared this article with me – Why I want you to steal my ideas. If you didn’t already know from the title, this one is by the renowned blogger Seth Godin. I love Seth’s work and I read his blog regularly. Some of his writings are very thought provoking and makes you want to re-evaluate your stand on many day-to-day things. Here is my favorite line from the above link....
