On Wunderbar films

Another day I never dreamt would happen – I actually am beginning to believe Dhanush might be one of the better movie makers out there. Thinking about it, absolutely every movie made by his Wunderbar Films has turned out to be brilliant and/or entertaining. For instance, even the lighter ones like Maari or Kaaki Sattai were absolutely entertaining. Kaaki sattai even had a good premise. Of course, Kaakka Muttai and 3 are perhaps the best movies to have come under this belt....

Ok Kanmani

I saw OK Kanmani recently and have been itching to write about it for a while. The movie was a breeze and a nice watch. It doesn’t try to persuade you one way or the other. And it has very little content. But for Nithya Menon, Prakash Raj or Leela Samson, the movie would have fizzled out too fast. I know Nithya Menon is a fantastic actor from her role in 180....

Bangalore Days

A lot of people have been recommending Malayalam movies to me. I used to catch a few Malalayalam movies on DD long time back. They usually had good stories but were a drag. You know, at that teens you really want action (both kinds, yes). And then there is the stigma of watching a Malayalam movie as a teen. It can’t do you much good. I still managed to catch a few very good ones and mostly from the Mammotty stable – Iyer the great, New Delhi, Oru CBI Diary Kurippu etc....

bakkum baga baga baga

I never thought I’d ever say this of a Kamal Hassan movie: Uttama villain is a brave story. And I loved it. I think the last such movie was “Anbe Sivam”. That was a classic and I truly appreciated Kamal Hassan in that role: It was a brave story in multiple ways and had a truly appreciable philosophy backing it. TL;DR – Go watch Uttama Villain without expectations. You’ll love it....

On Absurdity…

Strange as it may seem, I seem to have fun with absurdity. Everybody does, to some extent. But sometimes I have fun at somethings that don’t even catch the attention of my wife. To the extent she now believes I am a tad weird in this topic. For instance, a few of these one liners gets me to laugh every single time! Most people are immune to it after the second or third times!...

Movie Marathon

Rohini and I have been on a movie marathon recently. We caught up on quite a few movies after a long lull. I am going to quickly summarize my thoughts here. The first one in the series is “Jobs”. We were quite bored one Friday night about 2 weeks back and decided to catch a movie. After a lot of thought on what we’d want to see, we decided to catch up on Jobs movie....

Two States

Rohini and I saw this movie yesterday in a theatre. Yeah, those deserve mentions because it may not make economic sense to go to the theatre these days when you can catch very good quality right in your ipad and youtube. Sometimes going to the theatre has a good feel to it, provided that the movie does not kill it for you. This one did not. I read this book by Chetan Bhagat about 3 yrs back....

Konjam Nadinga Boss!

Annoying, hilarious or however else you look at it, this program is perhaps the best thing a movie based channel ever came up with. For once, it makes us realize how difficult it is to deliver a dialogue with appropriate tonal variations and timing, body language even if the entire picture is not clear. So what if it took a 100 takes, most of us would still find it difficult.

Sunday Post

I already missed to keep the date. And its not even a week now! Anyway, to compensate, I ll write two posts today 😀 Sunday was eventless. Mostly lazing around in the couch with “hay day” and the idiot box. By night, I gathered motivation to run 3kms! I ll post my running adventures later. I was watching snippets from movies like “Singaravelan”, “Mudhalvan” etc. I am surprised how these movies were so big....
