On Ideas and Starting up

Ever since I joined college, I have wanted to be on my own. I never wanted to work for a boss. But given my family conditions back then, it wasn’t quite possible. So I ended up taking a job. Most of the decisions I took, excepting my marriage, were meant to serve this purpose. It is quite pathetic when I think that I still haven’t been able to get there....

Spam

I wonder how stupid the spam crawler bots are. I get really silly and extremely obvious comments that scream of being just a script. I guess they need some good machine learning algorithms to check which blogs to spam. And then what to spam. At the very least, pay to get akismet database to see how they classify spam. Then see how to beat that. Pointlessly writing on blogs that have no visitors can only waste the spammers internet bandwidth....

And one more down…

Am slowly and steadily getting used to this. I have an idea, I and Noni discuss it a bit and figure out even we might not use it. I still have a hunch feeling that it is a worthy idea, but don’t pursue it anyway. A few days/weeks/months later I read an article about a new company or a product line formed with exactly the same idea. Today morning was no different....

‘Tax’ing

I had to file my taxes in India for the 1 month that I worked last FY. And my auditor wants a Form16 from the company. Dude, I quit the company about 1.5yrs back! Anyway, I am trying to reach out to them to see if I can get this sorted out quickly. I don’t know if there are other better tax services in India. I have heard of a few companies that claim to make it simple and straight forward....

This week on tech #2

The last time I went running in Jurong, I was given an RFID tag and later on my timing was published on a website. I had some theories on how they could have done this until I landed this site recently. So if you plan to host a running, then you might want to read this link! And then I came across another link to build a IoT oscilloscope for $25....

Spicing it up a little …

Starting this weekend, I plan to write one post every week. Oh, the one post a day plan is still on – but as you can see it is not quite there yet. But this weekly post is a slightly different idea – one that hopefully will help me connect back to my original intentions. You might be aware of my arduino daily. It is an automatically generated page from paper....

Cyclop’s Eye

Just like the last time, I saw another tutorial on pyroelectro. This one created a cyclop’s eye. I was interested in trying this out using my arduino. Again, it slightly departs from the tutorial. You can take a look at the code on github. Leave your suggestions in comments!

Word Permutations

We were discussing something yesterday and it came up for us to arrive at all the possible words with at least 3 letters using the letters in the word ‘football’. We started out with a paper and pencil and came up with about 2 dozens when it struck me that I could do this with python. The pseudo code in my mind was this: generate all permutations/combinations of the letters in the word...

I should have studied computers instead…

… That’s a thought that keeps hitting me every now and then. I am reasonably good at my work (or) at least not so bad that somebody had to ask me get my act straight. Yet. I definitely like what I do. So that’s not where it starts either. But sometimes, computers are all that fascinate me. I can probably design one of my own in some years, it still doesn’t count for actually getting one to do what you want it to!...

Hello World!

I’ve been blogging on and off at various sites including wordpress and blogger. I’ve also tried consolidating a bunch of them a bunch of times. But given how haphazard my habits are, consolidation is never complete. This time around I have decided to stop using all the other tools and stick to this one alone. I self host it and that presumably gives me more control. It also makes it vulnerable, but I don’t know who on earth wants to control my site!...
